Tablescraps Trip Report

Tablescraps at Mt. St. Helena

“I’m in the parking lot.”

“We’re in the parking lot too, but I think we’re two towns over.”

Thus began our first outdoor rock climbing trip of the season....

Two missed exits and a pleasant 45 minute hike later, we were at the base of Tablescraps, St. Helena’s (and possibly the entire planet’s) easiest sport climbing area.  Although new and still chossy, the hardest thing about each route was picking just the right jug from among thousands of jugs all over the place.  Bad-ass climbers Lea C and Mark P felt that the place was over-bolted, but as a short climber (not to mention reluctant leader), I thought it was just PERFECT.  Newb Carol L did her first outdoor lead belay AND rappel ever with the guidance of Lea (is there anything Lea can’t do?).  Carol’s going to be a member of the CCC but I’m not sure if she knows it yet…

All in all, the weather was superb and the climbing pretty laid back.  It was a great way to start the season.  See you all in Yos soon!
